TYCCA Youth Advisor/Case Manager

Position: The Youth Connection Career Academies (TYCCA) Youth Advisor/Case Manager      

Reports To: TYCCA Program Director

The TYCCA Case Management Youth Advisors will provide case management services to TYCCA youth to ensure their needs are met to promote successful outcomes and program completion. Case Management Youth Advisors will coordinate and provide life skills development, career planning, coaching and supportive services.  These services can include but are not limited to assistance with housing, food, child care, transportation, mental health support and referrals.  The primary goal is to help participants find and obtain job related resources, post-secondary education opportunities, and supportive services.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Develop and maintain contacts with organizations and educational institutions making TYCCA presentations for the purpose of outreach, recruitment, and securing opportunities for TYCCA youth.
  • Provide orientation to youth on the services and eligibility requirements
  • Assist clients with determining eligibility, registering, and accessing community and social service needs. Provide transportation as necessary for clients (either directly or indirectly) to ensure clients are able to take advantage of needed services and all required program activities.
  • Maintain at least twice a month contact with assigned youth making additional contact as needed to ensure appropriate follow-up and reporting
  • Ensure youth participate in life skills and other trainings and workshops to develop the skills necessary to achieve economic independence and effective life skill management. 
  • Work with Job Developer to assess client skills and interests to provide career planning, post-secondary education opportunities, and job placement assistance
  • Maintain accurate, up to date client files.
  • Assist with youth summer employment and site monitoring
  • Conduct worksite visits as required for program compliance
  • Provide exited youth with 12 months of follow-up support to assist clients as needed in maintaining self-sufficiency after completing career academies programs and services
  • Meet all grant/contract requirements
  • Attend field trips, camping trips, conferences, professional developments, group outings, and home visits
  • All other duties as requested by management to help improve the lives of all client participants

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

REQUIRED JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

Executive Assistant

Position Title: Executive Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide high-level program support to President & CEO/Chief Operating Officer by conducting research, program coordination, preparing statistical reports, handling information requests, data input and management, procurements, processing program documents, preparing correspondence, receiving visitors, arranging and scheduling meetings.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Support President & CEO/Chief Operating Officer with administrative needs and activities related to TYC program development.
  • Provide support to President & CEO as Chair of the Love Detroit Prevention Coalition in community engagement and substance use prevention efforts.
  • Assist with program coordination - schedule program events and meetings (i.e. various orientation, interviews, registration, trainings) and outings, research and secure event locations.
  • Assist with mailings, presentations, collating packets, filing, attend company functions/meetings, minutes.
  • Assist with developing program schedules – work with various organizations, diverse groups.
  • Data entry for activities related to substance use prevention grant requirements.
  • Works with contract compliance department to provide documentation for contractual and program compliance.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through on issues in a timely manner.

  • Works as part of a team with all TYC program staff.

TYCCA Job Developer/Youth Advisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The TYCCA Job Developer/Youth Advisor supports TYCCA youth and young adults with job searching, job placement, apprenticeships, and secondary education opportunities. Establishes and maintain working relationships with employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to identify job openings and secure employment and vocational training opportunities. The Job Developer evaluates our youth’s background, skills, and interests, matching them to potential job openings or training programs. Facilitates classes that teach employment readiness. Coaches and prepares candidates for interviews and entry into the workforce.  Works with TYCC Youth Advisors to support their youth. Develop and execute overall yearly programming to meet and exceed grant/contract requirements.

  • Initiate and maintain ongoing personal contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for participant placement and identify training opportunities and position qualifications
  • Work closely with DESC’s Work-Based Fellow to identify current and transitioning youth to determine career needs, goals, and opportunities
  • Refer qualified youth to employers and conduct all necessary follow-up when applicants are placed in positions

Prevention Program Facilitator

Position Title: Prevention Program Facilitator

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

DO YOU WANT TO MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF YOUTH AND FAMILIES?

The Youth Connection is looking for a Program Facilitator who will work with the community and schools. This candidate will learn to provide evidence-based programs such as Botvin LifeSkills, Strengthening Families: For Parents & Youth Ages 10-14 (SFP 10-14) and I2D2 Fit N Fun Family Club. This person would be expected to work within a team and provide services for youth of all ages and their parents/caregivers to facilitate substance abuse prevention programs. These programs will be held in schools, local churches, businesses, and community facilities. Also, the candidate will ensure that the programs adhere to the agenda and guidelines already established. In addition, the facilitator will also follow up with families to make sure they will be present and input data after the close of each session. Finally, the candidate in the position will work closely with the SUD Director to establish a development plan to gain MCBAP prevention credentials within 2 years of employment and collaborate with other core staff to carry out the goals and objectives of all our Health, Wellness and Prevention Division (HWPD) Programs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Facilitate weekly prevention programs (Botvin LifeSkills, SFP 10-14, I2D2 Fit ‘N’ Fun Family Clubs).
  • Assist in inputting data from the program into databases.
  • Represent TYC at prevention program-related meetings and functions as directed.
