TYCCA Job Developer/Youth Advisor

Position Title: The Youth Connection Career Academies (TYCCA) Job Developer/Youth Advisor               

Reports To:  TYCCA Division Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

The TYCCA Job Developer/Youth Advisor supports TYCCA youth and young adults with job searching, job placement, apprenticeships, and secondary education opportunities. Establishes and maintain working relationships with employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to identify job openings and secure employment and vocational training opportunities. The Job Developer evaluates our youth’s background, skills, and interests, matching them to potential job openings or training programs. Facilitates classes that teach employment readiness. Coaches and prepares candidates for interviews and entry into the workforce.  Works with TYCC Youth Advisors to support their youth. Develop and execute overall yearly programming to meet and exceed grant/contract requirements.

                                                                                    

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Initiate and maintain ongoing personal contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for participant placement and identify training opportunities and position qualifications
  • Work closely with DESC’s Work-Based Fellow to identify current and transitioning youth to determine career needs, goals, and opportunities
  • Refer qualified youth to employers and conduct all necessary follow-up when applicants are placed in positions
  • Participate in outreach and recruitment activities
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date client files
  • Maintain at least twice a month contact with assigned youth making additional contact as needed to ensure appropriate follow-up and reporting
  • Adhere to agency confidentiality protocols regarding TYC clients, programs, and services
  • Work closely with Youth Advisors to plan, execute and facilitate training classes, career fairs and college tours
  • Ensure youth participate in life skills and other trainings and workshops to develop the skills necessary to achieve economic independence and effective life skills management
  • Provide transportation as necessary for youth (either directly or indirectly)
  • Assist youth with summer employment and perform site monitoring
  • Attend field trips, camping trips, conferences, professional developments, group outings, and home visits
  • All other duties as requested by management to help improve the lives of all client participants

TYCCA Youth Advisor/Case Manger

Position Title: The Youth Connection Career Academies (TYCCA) Youth Advisor/Case Manger

Reports To: TYCCA Program Director & TYCCA Case Management Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

The TYCCA Case Management Youth Advisors will provide case management services to TYCCA youth to ensure their needs are met to promote successful outcomes and program completion. Case Management Youth Advisors will coordinate and provide life skills development, career planning, coaching and supportive services.  These services can include but are not limited to assistance with housing, food, child care, transportation, mental health support and referrals.  The primary goal is to help participants find and obtain job related resources, post-secondary education opportunities, and supportive services. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Develop and maintain contacts with organizations and educational institutions making TYCCA presentations for the purpose of outreach, recruitment, and securing opportunities for TYCCA youth.
  • Provide orientation to youth on the services and eligibility requirements.
  • Assist clients with determining eligibility, registering, and accessing community and social service needs. Provide transportation as necessary for clients (either directly or indirectly) to ensure clients are able to take advantage of needed services and all required program activities.
  • Maintain at least twice a month contact with assigned youth making additional contact as needed to ensure appropriate follow-up and reporting.
  • Ensure youth participate in life skills and other trainings and workshops to develop the skills necessary to achieve economic independence and effective life skill management. 
  • Work with Job Developer to assess client skills and interests to provide career planning, post-secondary education opportunities, and job placement assistance.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date client files.
  • Assist with youth summer employment and site monitoring.
  • Conduct worksite visits as required for program compliance.
  • Provide exited youth with 12 months of follow-up support to assist clients as needed in maintaining self-sufficiency after completing career academies programs and services.
  • Meet all grant/contract requirements.
  • Attend field trips, camping trips, conferences, professional developments, group outings, and home visits.
  • All other duties as requested by management to help improve the lives of all client participants.

 SPF-PFS Community Organizer

Position Title: SPF-PFS Community Organizer

Reports To: President and CEO

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults and building grassroots “systems change” coalitions. Previous experience with youth organizing, community organizing, leadership development and/or popular education is preferred. Ability to mentor, develop and empower community youth. Strong organizational and communication skills. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to utilize Microsoft Access database and Microsoft Word preferred.  Composition skills sufficient to prepare written materials. Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with staff and public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  • Help lead the development and coordination of youth and adults in our focused zip codes in northeast. Detroit to build core leadership, youth organizing capacities, and substance use prevention development of members.
  • Lead the development of working relationships with ally parent, youth, and other organizations.
  • Support campus organizing of college students at local Higher Ed. Institutions.
  • Coordinate member participation in external actions and mobilizations.
  • Support the development and implementation of campaigns.
  • Assist the evaluator in conducting program evaluations and data gathering.
  • Participate and facilitate workshops with youth and adults or trainings at conferences.
  • Support Coalition Leadership team work as needed.

 SPF-PFS Data Analyst

Position: SPF-PFS Data Analyst

Reports To: SPF-PFS Program Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for a broad range of duties in the research, collection, study, analysis, and tracking of substance use data to develop strategies to reduce risk and prevent the onset of substance abuse in our target population.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Coordinates and participates in epidemiologic studies and data/evaluation programs.
  • Assists in the investigation and control of substance abuse onset.
  • Collects, evaluates and analyzes data from multiple sources / programs.
  • Participates in quantitative and qualitative data analysis projects on behalf of TYC.
  • Conducts statistical analyses of epidemiologic and substance abuse data.
  • Prepares reports on outcomes, activities and findings.
  • Conducts research and reviews of pertinent local, state and national reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Ability to work flexible hours including late evenings, weekends, on-call, and occasional overnights.
  • Must have reliable transportation and willing to travel within the cities TYC serves, using personal vehicle.
  • Must provide State of Michigan I-CHAT background clearance, DHHS Central Registry clearance, and local police clearance. Federal clearances may also be required and State of Michigan Sex Offender Registry.

 

REQUIRED JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

  • Knowledge of broad health, safety, and substance abuse issues affecting youth and families.
  • Effective time management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills including writing and public speaking.
  • Ability to access data from multiple sources and maintain positive relationships with partners and coalition members.
  • Ability to handle multi-tasking and prioritization of duties.
  • Local, state, and national travel is required as part of the position.
  • Must be available for full time work from Mon. – Fri 9:00 am – 5:00pm (some weekend/evening hours will be necessary).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:  Master’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics or a closely related public health field and two (2) years of experience performing epidemiological or statistical analysis. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered in substitution for the minimum qualifications.

 

Licenses or Certificates: Valid unrestricted Michigan Driver’s License and provide proof of vehicle registration and auto insurance required.
