Boo Walk

A Look Back!

2014 Boo Walk

The Youth Connection hosted our 4th Annual Osborn Community Boo Walk on Saturday, October 25th, 2014 from noon until 4 pm at the Conner Creek Village/Kindred Hospital off of Conner Avenue just north of East Outer Drive. Approximately 500 parents and children attended the event held in a “spooky walkway” inside the hospital.

The event was free to the public (Halloween costumes being encouraged) and featured a walkway in the basement of the hospital where children can receive healthy snacks (fruit, granola bars, vegetables, and water), free giveaways to encourage physical activity (jump ropes and hula hoops) and candy, which will be available by visiting our resident ghoul along the way. There was also a craft table with kid-friendly Halloween projects led by Arts and Scraps and information on family-friendly exercise and nutrition available.

The Event is a part of The Youth Connection’s I2D2 Campaign – an effort to increase fruit and vegetable intake and physical activity and decrease intake of sweetened beverages and screen time for children 6-12 years old and their parents in the Osborn Community of Detroit.

“We are trying to give the residents of Osborn more information about eating right and exercising while enjoying a chance to take their Halloween costumes for a test drive,” said Dr. Grenaé Dudley, President and CEO of The Youth Connection. Last year’s event topped 600 attendees.
